HealthCode is looking for a few good walkers.

In recognition of  Military Appreciation Month in  May,  HealthCode is calling on all active military, veterans, family and friends of the U.S. armed forces to join the  Battle of the Branches virtual activity challenge to pay tribute to the U.S. armed forces while encouraging physical activity to build readiness, resilience and build comradery.

“To honor and thank all who have served, HealthCode is encouraging everyone to get out and support our U.S. armed forces for a walk, run or bike ride in May,’’ said Steve Amos, CEO and founder of HealthCode. “We created this competition to underscore the importance of an active lifestyle while building readiness, resilience and unity.”

The event is open to branches of the U.S. armed forces stationed in the United States or abroad.

The Battle of the Branches was launched in 2021 through HealthCode’s longstanding work with the U.S. Air Force. Since 2016, the Air Force has been using the HealthCode’s virtual activity events to engage military personnel around the world.

Tony Cucolo, a retired United States Army Major General and CEO of Austin-based Professional Contract Services, Inc., said: “Physical fitness was a job requirement when we were in uniform but over time, we learned regular physical activity not only kept us fit and ready, but healthy mentally as well: few things beat that feeling you have after a tough workout. In this Battle of the Branches, all of us can be examples of a commitment to lifelong physical fitness. And since there is nothing like a little friendly competition to build esprit de corps while promoting a healthy lifestyle to our fellow citizens, I expect my brother and sister veterans from the Army – Active, Guard and Reserve – to help show those ‘younger services’ who’s the best!”

Participating in the Battle of the Branches is simple. Participants sign up on Battle of the Branches registration page and select a branch, including Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy and Space Force and then a group – Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Veteran, Family, Friend, Civilian Employee —  and set a goal for the number of miles of activity to be achieved.

Throughout the month, the program’s international leaderboard is updated with miles achieved globally, including running, walking, cycling or swimming.

At the end of the month the winning branch will be determined based on factors including the most participants from each branch, the highest average miles per participant and the highest percentage of participants from each branch.

In addition to bragging rights, the winning branch will receive a Battle of the Branches virtual trophy and the 2022 Battle of the Branches challenge T-shirt will be printed in the winning branch’s color. More details can be found at https://healthcode.org/battle/.
