for No Barriers – for All of Us

“No Barriers” was born out of the reality that everyone is carrying something – seen or unseen. Barriers reside in the body and in the mind, and they rarely wait for a convenient season of life.

HealthCode and PCSI are encouraging people of all ages to celebrate the women and men with disabilities in the American workforce through the “No Barriers’’ virtual activity challenge in October.

No Barriers is open to everyone, kids, parents, grandparents, care partners or anyone who wants to celebrate the women and men with disabilities in the American workforce. Whether you are an athlete or just dipping a toe into a new fitness routine, No Barriers is for all of us. Walk, stretch, garden or hand-cycle. Whatever you can do today, do it.

            Why It Matters

No Barriers is More than a Workout

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, honoring the contributions of Americans with disabilities in the workforce.

Professional Contract Services, Inc. (PCSI), is a nonprofit that employs more than 2,000 people with disabilities and veterans across the nation. They are teaming up with HealthCode to mark the month with the No Barriers challenge to raise awareness of the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle while recognizing the contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce.

PCSI’s workforce, Special Olympics athletes and millions of working Americans with disabilities prove every day that ability isn’t defined by their disability. Whether it is an invisible, mild or significant disability, physical, mental, intellectual, or something else, No Barriers gives all of us a way to celebrate that together.

“The No Barriers challenge reminds us that everyone has the ability to excel – no matter what the obstacles. Whether you walk, run, roll, bike or stretch, take the challenge and knock down your own barriers with us during October.”

                  — Tony Cucolo, President and CEO, PCSI; Retired U.S. Army Major General

What if I can barely move?

No Barriers is built for everyone. Engage in the activity of your choice: a few minutes of seated stretches, a walk to the mailbox, a lap around the room, digging in the garden. It all counts.

Do I need to have a disability to participate?

No. No Barriers is open to everyone.

                            What kinds of activities count?

No Barriers is about getting moving so all activities count. Some examples include: walking, running, cycling, seated exercises and chair yoga, swimming, gardening, dancing and physical therapy. Participants will have the option to log miles or minutes.

Can I participate outside of the United States?

Yes. No Barriers is a local-to-global challenge. HealthCode has had participants in all 50 U.S. states and more than 30 countries participate in our programs. The leaderboard tracks activities globally.

Where does my donation money go?

Optional registration donations are tax-deductible and support the nonprofit HealthCode in providing programs free to schools and low-income communities. For the No Barriers challenge this year, participants will have the option to raise funds for Special Olympics through HealthCode’s FundDash platform.

                            What is FundDash?

HealthCode’s FundDash platform allows participants to raise funds for select nonprofits.

No. Participants in HealthCode’s challenges have the option to sync activities with some of the more popular fitness apps or enter activity manually using HealthCode’s online tracker.
